Frequently asked questions.

  • Aging-in-Place isn’t the right solution for everyone — but it is a great option for most people.

Our clients include older adults, individuals with mobility limitations or chronic health conditions, caregivers, adult children supporting aging parents, and those who are planning ahead to remain safely at home long-term. For many people, thoughtful home modifications and proactive planning can significantly improve safety, independence, and quality of life.

That said, there are some individuals whose medical, cognitive, or support needs may be better met in alternative living environments. Our role is to help you understand your options and make informed decisions based on safety, function, and overall well-being — whether that means aging-in-place or exploring other supportive living arrangements.

We believe the right choice is the one that best supports your health, independence, and peace of mind.

  • While Aging-in-Place and Universal Design share similar goals, they are not the same.

Universal Design focuses on creating spaces that are usable by everyone, regardless of age or ability. These designs are typically applied broadly and emphasize general accessibility features that work well for many people, such as wider doorways, lever-style handles, and zero-step entries.

Aging-in-Place, on the other hand, is a highly client-centered approach. It focuses on the specific person living in the home — their health, mobility, routines, preferences, and future goals. Rather than applying a standard set of features, aging-in-place solutions are personalized to support how an individual actually lives in their space.

At Every Home Solutions, we use an aging-in-place lens to creates homes that work exceptionally well for you.

  • Every Home Solutions operates as a private-pay service so we can provide truly personalized, unbiased, and comprehensive aging-in-place assessments and recommendations.

Insurance companies typically only reimburse for services that meet very narrow medical criteria, are time-limited, and focus on short-term treatment rather than long-term safety, prevention, and independence. Aging-in-place planning — including fall prevention, home safety design, and future-focused modifications — is often considered preventative and therefore not covered, even though it has a profound impact on health and quality of life.

By not billing insurance, we are able to:

    • Spend the time your home and situation deserve, without rushed visits or restricted scopes

    • Provide holistic recommendations based on your lifestyle, goals, and future needs

    • Remain independent and client-centered, not tied to insurance-driven limitations

    • Focus on prevention, not just reaction after an injury or hospitalization

While insurance may cover care after a fall or injury, it rarely supports the proactive steps that help prevent those events from happening in the first place. Our clients choose private-pay services because they value thoughtful planning, expert guidance, and long-term safety.

We’re always happy to provide detailed invoices or documentation that clients may submit for possible reimbursement through long-term care insurance, health savings accounts (HSA), or flexible spending accounts (FSA), depending on individual plans.

  • Yes. For small to medium-sized accessibility and safety projects, construction is performed by our trusted in-house contractor. This allows us to ensure that recommendations are carried out exactly as intended, with attention to safety, function, and long-term use — not just appearance or code minimums.

For larger-scale remodels (such as full bathroom renovations, kitchen remodels, or major structural accessibility projects), Every Home Solutions partners with Finn Property and Maintenance of Keene, a highly regarded local company recognized as Keene’s Best year after year. This partnership allows us to combine clinical expertise and aging-in-place design with high-quality craftsmanship and project execution.

  • Absolutely. We are always happy to collaborate with your chosen contractor, builder, or remodeler.

In these situations, Every Home Solutions provides:

    • Clinically informed recommendations and design guidance

    • Safety and accessibility specifications

    • Collaboration and communication throughout the project

    • Oversight to ensure modifications support real-world function

Many contractors welcome this partnership, as it provides clear direction and reduces uncertainty around accessibility and aging-in-place best practices. Our goal is not to replace your contractor — it’s to enhance the project with expert insight so the final result is safe, functional, and built to last.

  • Our services go far beyond construction. Every Home Solutions combines licensed occupational therapy expertise with specialized aging-in-place certifications (CAPS and HAST) and real-world remodeling experience. We evaluate how your health, mobility, balance, cognition, and daily routines interact with your home — ensuring recommendations are not only code-compliant, but functionally safe and supportive long-term.

While a contractor focuses on what to build, we focus on why, where, and whether a modification truly improves safety and independence. This clinical, personalized approach helps prevent costly mistakes, reduces fall risk, and often saves money by ensuring modifications are done correctly the first time.
